Academic Enhancement Funding

PROCEDURES FOR APPLYING FOR FUNDING FOR ACADEMIC TRAVEL

The Academic Enhancement Fund supports individuals or small groups of students wishing to travel for an academic purpose not associated with a regular semester course or study abroad program. Examples include, but are not limited to: travel and other costs associated with attending an academic conference or workshop, or similar activity.

For the program or workshop to be eligible for funding, the following criteria must be met:

  • It cannot be credit-bearing
  • It cannot be a study-abroad program
  • It cannot be connected to research (including senior research or directed study)

The Lisska Center for Intellectual Engagement will make grants of up to a total of $1,000 per student over a student’s four years at Denison. Students traveling in a group of more than 3 students may receive up to $300 per student. No more than 6 students per group (for domestic travel) or 4 students per group (for international travel) will be funded in order to allow us to support a range of opportunities. Other requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis as funds permit. Note that funds are extremely limited, and so decisions about funding will necessarily need to be selective.

Each student must submit a Google form application that includes: 1) a brief statement of purpose; 2) a detailed budget; 3) an explanation of financial need; and 4) a description of other funding sources and amounts (if applicable). Note that applications for the Academic Enhancement Travel Fund are reviewed 4 times each year. Be sure to plan well ahead and submit your application by one of the deadlines.

Student Academic Travel Funding

PROCEDURES FOR APPLYING FOR FUNDING TO PRESENT AT A CONFERENCE

The Lisska Center will provide up to $750 in funding to cover travel, lodging, conference fees, poster printing, and meals (not covered by the conference) for Denison students who are presenting their research at a conference. (For Fine Arts students and Creative Writers this would be the equivalent of participating in a performance or workshop.) You may receive funding to present at only ONE conference per academic year.

To be eligible to receive this funding, prior to attending the conference the student must complete the Google form titled Student Academic Travel Form on The Lisska Center MyDenison page. Here you will provide the conference information as well as a budget listing any expenses you expect to incur. You must submit your completed application for funding at least 30 days prior to the date of the conference.

Contact the Lisska Center for more information.
